The module aims:
• To prepare teachers to engage in scholarly activity at Master level.
• To address issues in relation to:
a) The acquisition of reliable knowledge
b) Critical engagement with ideas
c) Effective scholarly writing
On completion participants will be enabled to:
• Use web based and library research strategies with discrimination
• Critique and evaluate pieces of published academic writing
• Engage in critical thinking about subject specific topics
• Write in accordance with accepted academic styles and conventions
• Engage in scholarly debate

Reflective Practice (W.I.T. Diploma)

• Develop the learner skills in reflective practice.
• Prepare participants to engage in scholarly activity at master level.
• Demonstrate an awareness of and be able to articulate their personal knowledge base.
• Demonstrate a reflective approach through their learning and teaching journal.
• Engage in critical reflection on their experience of teaching.
• Demonstrate an awareness of emotional intelligence in the classroom.
• Plan for on-going reflection and continuing professional development.

Project Maths.Content Knowledge for Strand 1: Statistics and Probability

Local Courses on Content Knowledge for Strand 1: Statistics and Probability
• For teachers of Junior and Senior Cycle mathematics (all levels)
• New maths teachers who are taking up positions in local schools from September 2010
• 2 days / 6 hours per day
• Using DVD and resources based on NCE-MSTL summer course
• Delivered by experienced maths teachers
• Attendance will be certified
The Project Maths Development Team, in collaboration with the National Centre of Excellence in Maths and Science Teaching and Learning in the University of Limerick , is pleased to offer this course on Strand 1: Probability & Statistics. The workshops will focus on new elements of the course, methodology and the use of information technology and will cover topics from Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate.
