Course Content:
• Brief overview of legal obligations
• Two key legal terms – reasonably practicable / competence
• Responsibilities and duties
• The Safety Statement
• Understanding hazards, risks and controls
• Risk Assessment
• General principles of preventing accidents
• Emergency planning
• Accident reporting
• Managing health and safety
An on-line forum will allow participants to exchange views with each other on matters raised on the course. The Health and Safety Authority will facilitate the forums, periodically.
This on-line course introduces teachers and Principals to the basic principles of managing health and safety in the school. It encourages teacher reflection on hazard identification, risk assessments and the writing of safety statements. End of unit assessments and off-line assessments complement the course content.
Requirements:
This course requires a computer which is connected to the Internet via broadband and is running a Web browser with the Adobe Flash player (version 9 or above) installed.
